LONGMONT, Colo. - A 72-year-old woman who fled Colorado after she was accused of pretending to be a Holocaust survivor to bilk sympatheic neighbors has been found working a motel in Montana.
But Boulder County authorities say they won't seek extradition for Rosemarie Pence, who claimed to have survived the Dachau concentration camp. She also told neighbors she was once a skier on the German Olympic team.
Pence's stories were so compelling that a local author wrote a biography, and another woman loaned her at least $70,000.
When neighbors discovered Pence was a fraud, she fled. County investigators confirmed a tip that Pence is working at a Super 8 Motel in Butte. But prosecutors say she won't be extradited to face fraud charges.
