BILLINGS - A man was sentenced to serve 10 years in the Montana State Prison for breaking his 3-month-old daughter’s arm two years ago.
Nicholas Leigh Ulmer, 25, was sentenced in Yellowstone County District Court on Monday to 10 years for one count of assault on a minor.
On two additional felony counts of assault on a minor, to which Ulmer pleaded no contest, he received a 10-year suspended sentence to be served after Ulmer completes his prison term. The sentence was imposed by District Court Judge Russell Fagg.

For the first count, Ulmer said on Sept. 3, 2013, he broke the baby’s arm when he pulled her out of a swing and her arm got caught, according to charging documents.
On the latter two counts, he said he’d fallen while holding the baby, and that was when she received fractures to her head and left arm.
