We have just made it through the most ugly, endless, disgusting campaign season I ever care to remember. Is campaign finance reform the answer?
I have a different idea. I think the first order of business should be campaign-duration reform, to wit: The campaign season will be limited to the six-week period prior to the election date. Any campaign that shows any activity before of after that time frame will be fined $200,000 for the first infraction; $500,000 for a second infraction. If there is a third, the offending party's candidate will be held in jail until the election is over. Given what we've endured, that seems entirely reasonable!
