Why is it always the poor who pay for balancing budgets? ("Urge opposition to Medicaid cuts" by Helen Matveyeff, Missoulian letter, June 13.)
Helen Matveyeff is right in calling for constituents to contact those who represent them in Congress to protect programs like Medicaid and SNAP that provide help to those in need, especially children, the disabled and the elderly. These programs also provide ladders out of poverty for people who find themselves in sudden difficulties like the those brought on by economic down turns or job loss.
So take a few minutes to call or write your representatives and ask them to protect these programs and work to end the causes of poverty in the world’s richest country.
