Effective Montana state senators need a strong set of skills because of the challenging issues addressed in the legislature and because of varying opinions about solutions.
Sen. Diane Sands, seeking re-election in Senate District 49, possesses such a set. She has experience as state senator and representative and was the director of the Montana Women’s Lobby. Her commitment to equality and the need to address the causes of social problems was shown in her work with the Office of Public Instruction, Montana Community Foundation, Partnership for Health Care and the University of Montana’s Women’s Resource Center.
She led recent efforts examining Montana laws and policies surrounding sexual assault which resulted in significant changes in prosecution, jury education, service coordination and consent. This required effective collaboration with those with varying political perspectives. Sands’ respect for all perspectives has been noted by those on all sides and bodes well for her ongoing leadership in the Montana Senate.
Relevant experience in social justice efforts, bold vision and the ability to build upon common ground make Senator Sands worthy of the votes of those in Senate District 49 wanting an energetic and committed individual to represent them.
