Effective anti-poverty programs such as Medicaid, which covers over 60 million Americans (primarily children, people with disabilities and the elderly) seem to have become an endangered species in the current political climate.
The proposed White House budget for 2019 calls for cutting Medicaid funding by $1.4 trillion over the next 10 years. Committees in the House and Senate are considering these budget proposals now.
We need to let our legislators, U.S. Sens. Jon Tester and Steve Daines and U.S. Rep. Greg Gianforte, know that we oppose these deep cuts to Medicaid, which would prove devastating for millions of Americans struggling under the double burden of poverty and ill health.
Remind our representatives of the words of Martin Luther King Jr. who said: "of all the forms of inequity, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane."
