For a team that started the season 1-5, the Lady Griz sure have come a long way.
On Saturday Montana secured the No. 2 seed for the Big Sky Conference tournament with a determined effort at Northern Colorado. The Lady Griz emerged with a 63-60 win and will take a two-game win streak into postseason play.
Congratulations to coach Robin Selvig and his staff on a sensational job of coaching, and congrats to all the players, who endured a roller-coaster ride and finished the regular season with a big feather in their caps.
Here are a few things I loved about Saturday's game:
* Montana's bench outscored Northern Colorado's 28-14. That's a huge stat considering Montana's top three scoring threats shot a combined 5 for 25.
*In a battle of two of the best rebounding teams in the conference, Montana tallied 39 boards to the Bears' 33. Sarah Ena collected a season-high 12 rebounds.
*Northern Colorado was held to 32.8 percent shooting and turned the ball over 15 times.
*Shadra Robison, Alyssa Smith and Alexandra Hurley combined for 21 points.
