BUTTE - Missoula Big Sky won its third straight softball game and picked up its first Western AA victory of the season Tuesday with a 3-1 verdict over Butte.

Big Sky improved to 1-6 in league play and 6-7 overall. Butte is also 6-7 overall, and 3-6 in league.

The Eagles' JoDee Krause threw a two-hitter for her fourth win of the season. Collette Phillips went 2-for-2 and scored the eventual go-ahead run.

The Eagles scored two runs in the first inning. No. 2 hitter Shelley Boyd drew a walk and stole second. The catcher's throw hit Boyd's helmet and ricocheted to the fence, allowing Boyd to score. Phillips then walked, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball and came in on a fielder's choice by Amanda Stubb.

Big Sky downed Billings Senior and Billing West last Saturday to snap a six-game losing streak.

Kalispell 5, Hellgate 4

KALISPELL - Crystal Svennungsen broke a 4-4 tie with a game-winning single to score Steph Lanfear in the bottom of the seventh inning as Kalispell upended Missoula Hellgate 5-4.

Kalispell had two outs when Lanfear singled, stole second, advanced on a Hellgate error and scored on a bloop single over the first baseman's head. Kalispell upped its record to 7-2 in Western AA play, 10-4 overall.

Hellgate held a 4-0 lead through four innings before the Bravettes staged their first two-out rally to tie the game in the fifth. They put together three straight hits with two outs to knot up the game.

Freshman reliever Chelsey Lorenz shut down Hellgate after coming into the game in the fifth inning. Lorenz improved to 4-2 on the season.

Chelsey Burton scored two runners with her single in the fifth. Lanfear led the way for Kalispell going 3-for-4.

Mandy Hays and Karin Gorseth each had two hits for Hellgate (3-6, 3-9).

NOXON - Sophomores Paige Lebsock and Traci Gibbs hit home runs as Frenchtown pounded Noxon 18-1 in a Class B-C match-up that was shortened to five innings due to the 10-run margin rule.

Lebsock drove in three and Gibbs and Anna Henderson drove in two apiece for the Broncs. Frenchtown's Amanda Babon held the Red Devils to one hit and smacked a triple. Freshman Maggie Haflich took the loss for Noxon.

HAMILTON - Hamilton's Melissa Weston hit a single to right field in the fourth inning to drive in three runs as the Broncs shut out Central A rival Stevensville 15-0.

The junior pitcher had 10 strikeouts and gave up only two hits in the win to improve her record to 9-2.

Kristen Hansen had a single, a double, and an RBI for Broncs, who improved to 5-0, 10-3.

Jonna Davis and Celena Ross had Stevensville's two hits.
