Missoula Hellgate split a Western AA doubleheader with Helena High on Thursday at McCormick Park.

The Knights won the opener 2-0 and lost the second game 3-0. Both were league games.

In the opener, sophomore pitcher Molly Hays struck out seven and held the Bengals to just three hits. The Knights scored their two runs in the fifth inning off singles by Kari Harding and Karin Gorseth. Both hits came with the bases loaded.

Amy McArdle had a single and an RBI for Helena.

In the second game, Ashley Miller had an RBI single and Melissa Brooks hit a solo home run in the Bengals' 3-0 shutout of Hellgate.

Harding and Hays had the hits for Hellgate, which fell to 4-7, 4-10.

BUTTE - Leena Worrell struck out three, didn't allow a walk and surrendered just three hits to lead Butte to a Western AA victory over Missoula Sentinel.

Butte scored two runs in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead. Stacie Stosich singled home Kristi Witt. Liz McCloskey scored from third base when Sentinel catcher Nikki Pummill dropped a throw from pitcher Maren Buck. Sentinel, which has lost four of five since opening the season with eight straight victories, committed three errors in the game. The Spartans are 6-2 in league and 9-4 overall.

STEVENSVILLE - Junior Chanel Evanoff scattered six hits, walked one and struck out six to help Corvallis to a Central A victory over Stevensville.

Corvallis scored two runs in the first inning. Both Kayla Chavez and Nicole Murray scored on passed balls. Whitney Mousley had an RBI single in the seventh inning. Nicole Murray went 2-for-3 for the Blue Devils who improved to 4-2 in league and 9-4 overall.

Stevensville's Nikki Curtis walked six batters, including four in the first inning. She pitched solid over the final six innings and finished with seven strikeouts.

POLSON - Sophomore Danielle Armstrong went 3-for-4 with a triple and an RBI to lead Libby to a 7-3 Western A victory over Polson.

Senior pitcher Lacey Thompson allowed six hits and three walks while fanning two to earn the complete game victory for the Loggers. Mandi Foss contributed an RBI single for Libby. Lena Dailey, Sarah McClain, and losing pitcher Erin Turnage all went 1-for-3 with an RBI for Polson.

FRENCHTOWN - St. Ignatius snapped a five-game losing streak by ending Frenchtown's eight-game winning streak.

Angela Hawkaluk went 2-for-2 with a double and Shaylena Piedalue had two hits to lead the St. Ignatius offense. The Bulldogs scored two runs in the fifth inning on a Frenchtown error to take a 4-1 lead.

Frenchtown pounded out nine hits, but stranded 10 base runners. Paige Lebsock had a pair of doubles and two RBIs for the Broncs, who play at defending Class B-C champion Florence on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

THOMPON FALLS - Leah Clark drove in three runs with a single in the bottom of the fifth inning to lift Thompson Falls to a Class B-C victory over Missoula Loyola.

Kelly Taylor, Steph Pirker, and Rose Benton each had two hits for Thompson Falls. Clark finished with four RBIs and Jedlicka had two.

Megan Price went 2-for-4 with two doubles an an RBI. for Loyola Chelsea Gilfillan went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Rachel Gilfillan had two hits.

Thompson Falls, which has lost six games by one run, improved to 6-4 against B-C teams and 6-7 overall. Loyola is 5-5, 6-8.
