The Missoula Osprey closed their first series following the all-star break with a 3-2 loss to the Orem Owlz on Sunday, splitting the four-game road series.
The Osprey gave up what proved to be the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Johan Sala singled home Jose Quezada with a line drive to left field on the first pitch he saw from Liu Fuenmayor.
Fuenmayor took the loss and fell to 3-2 on the season. He allowed just the one run and five hits in three innings of relief. Dustin Lacaze started the game and limited Orem to two run on three hits in five innings.
The Osprey collected 10 hits to out-hit Orem by two. But they managed just one baserunner in the final three innings against relievers Zac Kristofak and Ryan Randel, who earned his first save of the season.
Missoula took a 1-0 lead on Tristen Carranza's RBI single in the third inning, gave up two runs in the fourth on a Torii Hunter RBI double and a Lacaze wild pitch, and tied the game 2-2 in the fifth on another Carranza RBI single.
The Osprey are tied with the Billings Mustangs atop the Pioneer League North with an 8-5 record in the second half of the season. They kick off a four-game road series against the Ogden Raptors at 7 p.m. Monday.
