RENO, Nev. (AP) -- Taylor Davis hit a two-run single in the first inning, leading the Iowa Cubs to an 8-7 win over the Reno Aces on Wednesday.
The single by Davis scored Mark Zagunis and Mike Freeman to give the Cubs a 2-0 lead.
Reno answered in the bottom of the inning when Christian Walker hit a two-run home run to tie the game.
The Cubs took the lead for good in the third when David Bote hit an RBI single, driving in Freeman.
Reno saw its comeback attempt come up short after Kristopher Negron and Socrates Brito hit RBI singles in the seventh inning to cut the Iowa lead to 8-7.
Brad Markey (2-2) got the win in relief while Reno starter Jake Buchanan (4-6) took the loss in the Pacific Coast League game. Dillon Maples retired the side in order for his fifth save of the season.
Brito homered and singled twice, driving in two runs for the Aces. Walker homered and singled, scoring a pair of runs while also driving home a couple.
