MISSOULA — Montana men's basketball transfer Lars Espe has landed at the Division II level.
He'll continue his playing days at Barry University, according to his profile on Instagram. Barry is a private university in Miami Shores, Florida, that plays in the Sunshine State Conference.
He signed his letter of intent with Barry on May 30, according to Verbal Commits.
In his one season at Montana, the 6-foot-1 freshman guard from Norway played 42 minutes in 17 games He was expected to bring in skilled ball handling and court awareness skills, but he never earned the playing time to showcase those. He finished the season with six points, five assists, three rebounds and one block.
He came to Montana after playing for Gimle BBK Club in Norway, where he was named the 2016-17 Young Player of the Year in the BLNO, the country's premier professional basketball league. There, he averaged 15-plus points per game with an assist-to-turnover ratio of approximately 2-to-1. He had been the captain of Norway’s U-18 national team during the 2016-17 season and had represented Norway at the U-16 European-B championships in 2014.
With Espe landing at Barry, all four of the Grizzlies' transfers have found a new home. Karl Nicholas committed to Division I Stephen F. Austin. Niko Bevens signed with Division II Alaska Anchorage. Admir Besovic reportedly will transfer to Santa Fe College, a junior college.
Walk-on Trever Spoja left the team to focus on school for his senior year.
