Montana and Michigan prepare

Montana head coach Travis DeCuire looks on and smiles as he addresses a question from the press at the NCAA tournament on March 14 in Wichita, Kansas.

MISSOULA — The Montana men’s basketball team will play a road game against the Creighton Bluejays on Nov. 28, according to a copy of the game contract obtained by 406mtsports.com through a Freedom of Information Act request.

The game will take place at Century Link Arena in Omaha, Nebraska. The tip-off time wasn’t set in the contract.

The Griz will receive $100,000 in guarantee-game money from Creighton for the matchup against the Big East foe that made the NCAA tournament last year. They’re up to $195,000 in scheduled payments for their non-conference games; they’re contracted to get $95,000 from Arizona for the game against the Pac-12 team on Dec. 19.

Montana will also receive 50 complimentary tickets to the game.

The non-conference matchup will be the seventh all-time meeting between the schools and the first since 1993-94. The Griz are 2-4 against the Bluejays, with all six of those games coming when Creighton was in the Missouri Valley Conference. Montana beat Creighton at home in 1989-90 under Stew Morrill and at home in 1993-94 under Blaine Taylor.

The Griz have six games scheduled for the 2018-19 season, four of which are against teams that made last season’s NCAA tournament. The four teams are South Dakota State, Arizona and Creighton on the road, and Georgia State at home.

Montana is also scheduled to host North Dakota State and travel to UC Irvine.

Although the Big Sky Conference is moving to a 20-game schedule next season, the cap on regular-season games remains the same. The Griz are sitting at 26, and a team can schedule up to 29 games, or they can schedule 27 games and play in a multi-team event (MTE) — a four-game tournament — for a total of 31 games.

The Griz have played an in-state non-Division I team in three of four years under head coach Travis DeCuire. No such game is currently known to have been scheduled for the 2018-19 season.
