MISSOULA — The Montana men’s basketball team will play in the 2018 Islands of the Bahamas Showcase from Nov. 16-18 in Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas.
The six other participants are the Pepperdine Waves, Towson Tigers, Florida Atlantic Owls, Georgia Southern Eagles, Miami RedHawks and Incarnate Word Cardinals. Incarnate Word is led by former Carroll College coach Carson Cunningham, who is in his first season there.
Each team will play three games. No opponents or game times have been announced. Since the Griz play NDSU in the Big Sky-Summit League Challenge series this season, it would make sense for the two of them to not be matched up while in the Bahamas.
With the announcement of the multi-team event, the Griz have scheduled 10 of their 11 non-conference games. They have one open date to add a game and have a road game against South Dakota State in the Big Sky-Summit League Challenge series that doesn’t have a date set yet.
The Griz host Georgia State Nov. 9, Montana Tech Nov. 12 and NDSU Dec. 17. On the road, they’ll play at Creighton Nov. 28, UC Irvine Dec. 8 and Arizona Dec. 19.
Montana had originally agreed to play in the 2018 Great Alaska Shootout. However, that multi-team event was canceled after 40 years, host school Alaska-Anchorage announced in August.
