DAVIS, Calif. — The Montana women's volleyball team opened its season with a pair of losses Friday at the Aggie Invitational.
The Griz dropped a 23-15, 22-19, 24-19 decision to host UC Davis in its opener, then fell 25-8, 25-21, 25-17 to Pacific in the evening. Montana will finish play in the tournament Saturday at 1 p.m. against San Jose State.
Davis received a strong hitting match from Mahalia White, who had nine kills in 12 attempts. Lauren Matias also had nine kills for the Aggies, who hit .370 as a team.
Janna Grimsrud led Montana with seven kills and just one error. Casey Stites dished out 18 assists, but Montana's defense was suspect. Three players had three digs apiece as the Griz totaled just 18 for the match; Davis had 30 digs.

Montana struggled with its hitting game in the loss to Pacific. The Griz hit just .049 for the match compared to .384 for the Tigers.
Three Pacific players tallied double digits in kills, led by Riley Patterson with 12.
Missy Huddleston led the Griz at the net with seven kills. Stites had 15 assists and Sarina Moreno came up with 12 digs.
