FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The Montana women's tennis team suffered its first Big Sky Conference dual loss on Friday, dropping a 6-1 decision to Northern Arizona.
The Lumberjacks now stand alone atop the conference at 3-0 (7-3 overall). Montana (3-1, 4-7) fell to third behind NAU and Eastern Washington.
"The surface was plasticized rubber - very hard and fast," Montana coach Steve Ascher said. "I can't say that it was a huge advantage for NAU, it just wasn't like the tennis that most athletes are accustomed to playing.
"I really hope that we get another chance to play Northern Arizona at a neutral site."
After being swept in doubles by the Jacks, Montana picked up a singles win at No. 3. Freshman Heather Davidson defeated Aimee Oki of NAU, 6-4, 7-6 (4).
Montana No. 1 Rebecca Bran played only doubles because of an injury. Because of that, Davidson and the rest of the Grizzlies were playing a position higher in singles.
