The Montana men's tennis team will resume its Big Sky Conference slate on Friday when it battles powerhouse Northern Arizona in Flagstaff, Ariz.
The Grizzlies (1-0 conference, 2-3 overall) will then take on nonconference foe Scottsdale Community College on Saturday in Scottsdale, Ariz.
"Northern Arizona will undoubtedly be the toughest conference opponent that we have seen to-date and they are likely to be so for the entire season," Montana coach Kris Nord said of the Jacks (3-0, 8-4).
NAU is led No. 1 by Andrew Reiff, who was a force in the Big Sky last season playing at No. 1 as a freshman.
Montana's roster has been bolstered by junior Josh Smith, a two-year varsity transfer from Indiana State, a school that cut its tennis program for 2010. Smith has gone 3-2 between Nos. 4 and 5 thus far for the Grizzlies.
"What our guys need is more court time," said Nord, whose team is still awaiting the completion of an indoor facility at The Peak Athletic Club in Missoula. "We have had some good practice outdoors but it is inconsistent spring weather that holds us back at present."
