Griz rally, win Drake tourney in overtime

  • 0

Matt Martin hit four clutch free throws in overtime as the Montana Grizzlies - who trailed the majority of regulation play - downed host Drake 78-72 to win the championship game of the Regency Classic in Des Moines, Iowa Saturday night.

The win was the seventh straight for Montana, now 7-1.

Kevin Criswell was named tournament most valuable player and was joined on the all-tournament squad by teammate Andrew Strait.

Strait was eight for eight from the floor and shared UM scoring honors with Matt Dlouhy at 17. Dlouhy hit three key treys as the Grizzlies fought back from a 10-point deficit in regulation to knot the game at 67-67 going into overtime. Criswell tossed in 16 and Virgil Mathews added 15 as the Grizzlies once again shot better than 50 percent from the floor.

Montana - outrebounded badly in the first half - cut the rebounding margin for Drake to 33-26 at game's end.

Next up for the Grizzlies is a home match-up against Montana-Western Wednesday night at Dahlberg Arena.
