Tyler Named Big Sky Player of the Week
MISSOULA, Mont. - University of Montana junior Hollie Tyler was named the Big Sky Conference Player of the Week the league office announced on Monday. It is the first time this season that Tyler has been honored and the fourth time in her career (once as a freshman, twice as a sophomore).
In four games, in which the Lady Griz went 3-1, Tyler averaged 15.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, posting a double-double in three of four games.
In a 68-54 win over Princeton in the opening game of the Lady Griz Holiday Classic, the 6-3 center had 18 points, 10 rebounds, two blocked shots and one steal. In the championship game against Memphis, a 74-56 Montana victory, Tyler had 14 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high seven blocked shots.
For her performance in those two games, Tyler was named to the Lady Griz Holiday Classic All-Tournament Team.
Last Friday in UM's 12th straight home win, a 67-51 victory over Western Michigan, Tyler had 13 points, 13 rebounds and four blocked shots. On Sunday, a 60-52 loss at Gonzaga that snapped Montana's five-game win streak, Tyler had 15 points, eight rebounds and two blocks.
Nineteen seconds into the game against the Zags, Tyler hit a 3-point shot that gave her 1,002 career points. She became the 21st player in Montana history to surpass the 1,000-point mark.
Tyler leads the team in both scoring (14.2 ppg) and rebounding (8.5 rpg) and has a team-high 33 blocked shots.
The Lady Griz (10-3) play at Colorado State on Tuesday, then host No. 25 Utah on Saturday in their final nonconference game of the season.
