GREAT FALLS - The Great Falls Gladiators won the showdown of the Rocky Mountain Football League unbeatens Saturday in Great Falls.
The Gladiators put the clamps on the Bitterroot Blaze offense for a 22-14 win in a battle for the top spot in the RMFL AA Northern Division.
Great Falls improved to 7-0 overall, while the Blaze dipped to 6-1.
Bitterroot and the Gladiators have locked up the two league playoff spots already, but two wild-card berths still remain up for grabs in the AA division.
Great Falls struck first Saturday on a field goal in the first quarter. Both teams scored a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter.
Justin Nixon, who was held under 100 yards rushing for the first time this season, marched in for a 2-yard score early in the period.
Player-coach Buckie Brawley also ran in a touchdown with 2 minutes, 17 seconds left in the opening half.
The Blaze were silenced in the second half by a Great Falls defense that has shut out four teams this season.
Bitterroot quarterback Shane Jurasek connected with Michael Breza on four occasions for 99 yards, but also tossed two interceptions.
The league takes Memorial Day weekend off.
Bitterroot next hosts the Glacier Knights in the Blaze's regular-season finale June 5.
