Helena Capital’s Megan Lindbo is fouled by Butte’s Aspen Lovshin during Tuesday’s game in the Bears Den. The Bruins defeated the Bulldogs 56-33.

HELENA — An intriguing storyline is developing between the two top-ranked teams in Class AA.

Helena, catapulted by star senior Jamie Pickens, continues to reign at No. 1. But the Bengals are challenged by crosstown rival Helena Capital. The two have a showdown looming Jan. 18, with the winner likely putting a hold on the top spot.

In Class A, defending champion Havre -- currently undefeated and with three girls who can score in double-digits in Jesse Chvilicek, Sadie Filius and Kyndall Keller -- continues to roll. No. 2 Billings Central's only defeat is by four points to Havre.

Columbia Falls remained hot, winning seven straight in a cluttered Northwest A division that includes Browning and Libby, two teams with height and skill. The Wildkats own wins over Class AA rivals Kalispell Glacier and Flathead.

In Class B, Townsend remained unbeaten and Wolf Point remains perfect, surviving two-point games against Malta and Harlem.

Belt and Box Elder continue to fight for supremacy in Class C. The Huskies are one of Class C’s long-standing powerhouses, but defending champion Box Elder, with six players capable of scoring in double digits, are right with their arch-rivals.
