COLUMBIA FALLS -- Defending State A boys' basketball champion Columbia Falls held off Corvallis 66-62 on Saturday in a nonconference season opener.
C. Falls' Ty Morgan and Corvallis's Chase Jessop traded five 3-pointers apiece, but it was Wildcats Glen Morden and Jayce Fagerland who provided the crucial threes that gave the home team the lead for good.
After Jessop hit two free throws that pulled Corvallis (0-1) even at 54-all with 3:40 remaining, the two Cats (1-0) hit back-to-back threes to give C. Falls some space.
Morgan finished with a game-high 25 points and Jessop scored 22. His teammate Jayce Gilder also had 19 as the Blue Devils got all their points from just three scorers.
