BUTTE - To be continued ...

Three-time defending State B-C softball champion Columbus and last year's runner-up Loyola Sacred Heart picked up where they left off last season, battling to a 6-6 tie Saturday at the Laverne Combo Invitational hosted by Butte Central.

"One good thing is that it leaves unfinished business," Loyola coach Dan Weber said.

Columbus edged Loyola 4-3 in eight innings for last year's state championship in Anaconda.

The Breakers led 5-1 after six innings, but Columbus scored four times in the top of the seventh to send the game to extra innings. Both teams scored a single run in the ninth, then called it a day because of time constraints.

"It was a very well-played ball game by both teams," Weber said. "We got exactly what we expected to get from Columbus."

Sarah Goodman was 4-for-5 with a triple and an RBI for Loyola, which banged out 10 hits.
