BOZEMAN — Butte quarterback Tommy Mellott and Billings West golfer Carrie Carpenter are the 406mtsports.com Athletes of the Month for September.
Carpenter, a senior who earlier this week won the Class AA girls golf title in snowy Great Falls by 13 strokes, won every tournament in which she competed in August and September. She also entered the season as the reigning MSGA State Junior Championship medalist.
Carpenter, who also won the Yellowstone County Ladies Amateur in September in Billings, took the Bozeman Invitational by nine strokes, the Billings Central Invite by four and the Helena Invitational by one.

Mellott, a senior who committed to Montana State football over the summer, has completed nearly 70 percent of his passes while guiding second-ranked Butte to a 6-0 start for the first time since 1991.
Mellott entered October completing 88 of 126 passes for 1,323 yards and 15 touchdowns with just one interception in five games. He also had 459 yards and six TDs rushing.
Mellott didn't slow down in his first October game, accounting for four TDs in a 56-38 thrashing of Helena Capital. The Bulldogs have averaged 47.1 points per game to date.
