THOMPSON FALLS - The Thompson Falls softball team took on two Western B-C powers Saturday and came away with a win and a loss.

Florence defeated the Bluehawks 5-2 in Thompson Falls' first game, then the Bluehawks stymied Loyola Sacred Heart by handing the Breakers a 3-1 defeat.

"I kept telling the girls all week that Florence is a good up-and-coming team," said Thompson Falls head coach Randy Pirker after his team finished the day 8-2 in league play and 12-2 overall. "They came out, played some small ball, got some timely hits and we couldn't handle it."

Paige Bodner had three singles and two RBIs for the Falcons. Courtney Byrne and Hayley Cole each doubled and drove in a run.

Byrne pitched the complete game to earn the win. She allowed five hits and a walk and struck out eight Bluehawks.

Kelsey Fitchett was 2-for-2 and drove in a run for Thompson Falls.

Senior hurler Kyla Molzhon pitched the entire game against the Breakers to earn the win and improve to 12-2. She struck out nine, walked one and allowed four hits.

Makayla Becker went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Bluehawks and Hannah Peters and Fitchett had an RBI apiece.

Sarah Goodman had two singles for Loyola.

Jenna Krum scattered three hits to get the win for Helena, which scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth and two more in the bottom of the fifth.

Kwyncee Ward was 2-for-4 for the Bengals and Sydney Carpenter and Jordan Briski both doubled.

Hailey Mortensen added a 3-for-4 performance with a triple and four RBIs.

At Frenchtown, the defending State A champions committed an uncharacteristic 10 errors in dropping the nonconference ballgame.

Justine Taylor led the Panthers' 15-hit parade, going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Ali Cygan drove in three and also doubled for Belgrade and Ashley Lulay had two RBIs and three singles.

Lauren Torres earned the complete-game win for the Panthers, allowing 11 hits and five walks while fanning nine.

Abby Indreland doubled, tripled and drove in one for the Broncs, who fell to 11-2.

At Corvallis, the Southwestern A Blue Devils scored six runs in the home half of the fifth inning to rally past the Northwestern A Pirates.

Corvallis' Angie Henderson led her team with a 3-for-4 day. Korie Conder was 2 for 4 with a , two-run single in the fifth that tied the game at 4-4.

Three more runs came in that frame on a fielder's choice, a fielding error and an RBI single by Ashley Johnson.

Polson scored four runs in the top half of the fourth to stake a 4-1 lead.

Riley Kenney led the Pirates with a 2-for-4 day, including an RBI single.

Corvallis' Alex Ewing got the victory. She struck out four and walked none.

At Corvallis, the Maidens scored four runs in the final three innings to pull out the nonconference win over the Blue Devils.

Lindsay Clairmont and Katie Andrews scored on errors in the fifth inning to put Ronan ahead 3-0.

Corvallis cut the gap to 3-2 in the sixth on RBI singles by Angie Henderson and Whitney Jessop.

But Ronan answered with two more in the seventh on a two-run single by Brittani Clairmont.

Bethany Coleman went the distance to pick up the win.

Deer Lodge sweeps Eureka

At Polson, Kellie Despain led the Wardens to a pair of Western B-C wins over the Lions.

Deer Lodge's starting pitcher picked up a pair of wins after holding Eureka to 12 hits combined in the two games. The Wardens won the first game 10-9 and the late game 13-8.

Despain was 3-for-5 in the late game. Teammate Shelby Applegate was 2-for-4 and drove in three runs. Syd McKee had three RBIs as well.

Deer Lodge (4-6 overall) collected 23 hits on the day.

In the first game, Annie Lombardi, Applegate and McKee all went 2-for-4.

Eureka's Steph Vogelman went 4-for-6 in the doubleheader with three homers, including two in the nightcap, and seven RBIs.
