WHITEFISH - The Libby softball team picked up a crucial Northwestern A road victory Thursday afternoon, downing Whitefish 10-6.

The Loggers, who moved into a tie for second place in the league standings with Whitefish and clinched a berth at the State A tournament next weekend, scored four times in the top of the seventh to put the game away.

Kim Tangen was 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs to lead Libby's 11-hit attack. Alysha Martin drove in two runs for the Loggers and finished with three singles.

Stacey Oedewaldt threw a complete game to earn the win for the Loggers. She allowed 10 hits and survived her defense making seven errors behind her.

Though she took the loss on the mound for the Bulldogs, Kaitlyn Wehrli homered and had two RBIs. Whitefish also received three hits from Shannon Holmes.

At Polson, every Pirate hit safely and Polson scored seven times in the bottom of the fourth to earn the Northwestern A win.

Sallie Sams was 3 for 4 with an RBI and Kylie Knutson doubled twice and drove in a pair for the Pirates (6-1, 15-5).

Shalaina Duford moved to 15-4 for Polson by limiting the Wildkats to five hits.

Cassidee Skiles hit a two-run homer for Columbia Falls.

At Corvallis, Alex Ewing went deep, belted four hits and had four RBIs as the Blue Devils rapped out 20 safeties in posting the Southwestern A win.

BriAnna Brawley was 5 for 5 with a double and three RBIs for Corvallis. The Blue Devils also received two runs driven in by both Korie Conder and Whitney Jessop.

Ewing got the win in relief of Ashley Johnson, throwing two innings of three-hit ball.

Melissa Hood was 2-for-3 for the Broncs.

At Stevensville, half of the Copperheads' hits went for extra bases as Anaconda held off the Yellowjackets for the Southwestern A win.

Vanessa Jense had a triple and Lisa Laslovich added a double as the Copperheads totaled four hits off Stevensville hurler Maddie Jones.

Brooke Chapman pitched five innings of four-hit ball to get the win for Anaconda. She allowed four hits and two walks while fanning seven.

Bailey Vercruyssen and Makaela Hallenback each had a double for Stevensville (0-8, 2-20).
