GREAT FALLS - Drummond discovered why Fairview is undefeated as the Trojans dropped their opener at the State C girls' basketball tournament Thursday at Four Seasons Arena.

Fairview (25-0) held the Trojans to just eight first-half points en route to a 38-24 win in the final game of the night. Fairview will face Roy-Winifred (23-1) in Friday's 8 p.m. semifinal. Roy downed Joliet 62-24.

Drummond (22-4) will square off against Joliet in a loser-out game at 2 p.m.

Saco-Whitewater downed Twin Bridges 52-37 and Belt knocked off Harlowton-Ryegate 51-31 in the day's other games.

Saco and Belt (22-2) will square off in the semifinals at 6:30 p.m. Twin Bridges (19-3) and Harlowton (24-1) will meet in loser-out action at 12:30 p.m.

Fairview 38, Drummond 24

Fairview jumped out to a 20-8 lead by intermission and hung on for the win.

Morgan Klose scored 10 points to lead Fairview. Stephanie Murphy and Katie Hardy added nine apiece.

Ayla Martell and Brianna Jesse scored five points apiece for Drummond, which shot just 7-for-33 from the field.

Saco-Whitewater outscored Twin Bridges 16-2 in the fourth quarter to pull away for an opening-round win.

Justin Marshall led Saco with 15 points. Brianne Depuydt added 13 and Angie Crowder chipped in 11.

Peyton Ferris paced Twin Bridges (19-3) with 17 points.

Belt knocked Harlowton-Ryegate from the ranks of the unbeaten with a decisive opening-round win.

Belt (22-2) led 34-24 entering the fourth quarter, then outscored the Engineers 17-7 in the final period.

Taylor Cummings led Belt with 17 points and Mariah Gondeiro added 11.

Bailey Snelling paced Harlowton (24-1) with 10 points.
