BOZEMAN — Nationally ranked track and field standouts Rylan Ortt of Missoula Sentinel and Delaney Bahn of Bozeman are the 406mtsports.com Athletes of the Month for April.
Ortt, a senior who has signed to play football for Montana State, soared to fifth in the national javelin rankings with a toss of 198 feet, 6 inches at the Missoula County Public Schools Invite. In doing so, Ortt topped his previous best by more than four feet.
Six days later, he improved his personal best to 200-10 at the Swede Dahlberg meet in Missoula. And for good measure, on May 3 he boosted the mark to 203-02 at the Butte Invite, putting him seventh nationally.
Ortt also was a standout quarterback for the Spartans and plans to play safety at MSU.
Bahn, a senior and the reigning Class AA state long jump champion, jumped farther than any in the state record books covering 19 feet, 11 1/4 inches at the Optimist Club meet in Great Falls. That mark tied her for eighth nationally at the time.

Also a standout high jumper, Bahn owned the best mark in the state this spring when she went 5-7 in Great Falls.
All told in April, Bahn took first each time she ran the 100 and 200 and did the same in the long jump and high jump. She also had a first and two seconds in the 100-meter hurdles.
Bahn plans to spend next year taking a gap year in The Netherlands, where her father has landed a teaching job.
