VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: No. 2 Helena sweeps Knights

HELENA - Monica Grimsrud and the second-ranked Helena High Bengals solidified their Western AA volleyball lead Saturday with a three-game sweep of second-place Missoula Hellgate.

Grimsrud led the Bengals in kills, digs and aces as Helena swept through the No. 5 Knights 27-25, 25-18, 25-17. The Bengals moved to 7-0 in league play and 12-2 overall behind Grimsrud's 11 kills, seven digs and three aces.

Kyndal Williams had 25 assists and seven digs for Helena, which downed Hellgate in four games in Missoula on Sept. 25.

Mary Yoder collected 12 kills and three blocks for the Knights, who fell to 6-3, 11-5. Brooke Bryant added 15 digs and Katie Seaholm set 18 of Hellgate's 29 assists.

Helena High def. Missoula hellgate 27-25, 25-18, 25-17

Stevensville def. Dillon, 3-0

At Dillon, Maddie Jones had 10 kills and nine digs to lead the Yellowjackets to the 25-15, 25-22, 25-21 Southwestern A win over Dillon.

Sionelle Beller added 20 assists and three aces for Stevi.

Emily Paffhausen had 14 digs and four aces for Dillon, which fell to 4-2 in league, 5-5 overall.

Stevensville def. Dillon, 25-15, 25-22, 25-21.

Hamilton def. Frenchtown, 3-2

At Frenchtown, Mary Conwell led the way as Hamilton won the Southwestern A thriller 20-25, 20-25, 25-21, 26-24, 15-10.

Conwell had 12 of Hamilton's 42 kills and added a team-high 14 assists. Melissa Hood had 23 digs, Nicole Hood had five aces and Tess Winter stuffed Hamilton's lone block.

Kelsey Fallis totaled eight kills and two aces for Frenchtown.

Columbia Falls def. Ronan, 3-0

At Columbia Falls, the Wildkats received 13 kills and 13 digs from Brooke Cady in posting the 25-12, 25-19, 25-13 Northwestern A sweep.

Casidee Skiles set all 32 of Columbia Falls' assists and Kayla DeWit added 10 kills and six aces.

Alice VanGunten had five kills for Ronan.

At Libby, Jackie Mee had 22 kills, five blocks and six aces to help the Loggers hold off Whitefish for a 25-14, 20-25, 23-25, 25-11, 18-16 Northwestern A win.

Logan Best had 14 of Libby's 60 digs and Evi Cernick dished out 31 assists.

Kaitlyn Wehrli had 16 kills and four aces for Whitefish. Jessica Slaybaugh added 11 digs and 15 assists.

Deer Lodge def. Darby, 3-1

At Darby, Danni Johnson was everywhere in the Wardens' 25-21, 23-25, 25-15, 25-17 District 6-B victory.

Johnson posted team highs with 17 kills, five blocks, 27 digs and three aces. ShyAnne Anderson matched Johnson's totals for digs and aces and Morgan Close added 16 assists and three aces for Deer Lodge.

Rachel Wetzsteon paced the Tigers (1-6, 3-8) with nine kills and 16 digs.

Deer Lodge def. Darby 25-21, 23-25, 25-15, 25-17

At Troy, the Cougars downed District 7-B Troy 25-19, 23-25, 25-13, 24-26, 15-10.

Ashley Paasch totaled 14 kills and five aces for the Trojans, who fell to 5-8. Alyssa Olds had 29 assists, Kimmy Klin picked up 13 digs and Kristin Parks stuffed a pair of blocks for Troy.

No statistics for Stillwater Christian were available.

At Superior, Heidi Cross led the Eagles to the 25-21, 19-25, 25-23, 23-25, 15-3 District 6-B win.

Cross tallied five blocks and four aces, while Carissa Ireland slammed 12 kills. Sarah Larson and Hollyn Whittmeir each had 10 digs for Valley Christian and Tessa Moore collected 50 assists.

Kaitlynn Koke's 12 kills, five blocks and five aces paced Superior.

At Eureka, Carly Hammond paced the Lions to the 25-13, 25-19, 25-13 District 7-B win.

Hammond had 12 kills and 11 digs and Selene Elster stuffed a pair of blocks. Alyssa White set 21 assists and Karina Hofstee provided Eureka with six aces.

Kayla Revier had five kills, three blocks and an ace for the Trotters.

Eureka def. Plains 25-13, 25-19, 25-13

At Florence, Abbie Maricelli's nine aces helped the District 6-B Falcons down District 7-B Thompson Falls 18-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-12.

Chelsea Ralls was responsible for 10 kills for Florence (8-4) and Mackenzie Bauck had 31 of the Falcons' 33 assists. Amanda Heffner added 19 digs for Florence.

Kelsey Fitchett led the Bluehawks with seven kills and three blocks.

Hot Springs def. Two Eagle River, 3-0

At Hot Springs, Mackenzie Wood had seven kills, nine assists and five aces in the Savage Heat's 25-13, 25-7, 25-21 District 10-C win.

Lindsey Salmi added six digs for Hot Springs, which improved to 9-2.

Jaylen Carpentier had two kills, three blocks and seven digs for Two Eagle.

Drummond def. Lincoln, 3-0

At Drummond, Jessi Dahl had 12 kills and Emilie Angelo added nine to lead the Trojans to the 25-10, 25-20, 25-11 District 9-C win over Lincoln.

Dahl added four blocks while Kenzee Gray served five of Drummond's 15 aces.

Katie Menard had three blocks and an ace for Lincoln.

The Trojans remained unbeaten in league play at 7-0, 10-1 overall. They'll host second place Philipsburg on Tuesday.

At Charlo, the Vikings remained perfect on the season with a 25-17, 21-25, 25-21, 25-17 District 10-C victory.

Alex Esterby paced Charlo with eight kills, four blocks and five aces. Kinley Pope had 27 digs for the Vikings, who upped their record to 8-0 in league play, 11-0 overall.

The Red Devils received 12 digs and 18 assists from Shelby Swant.

At Philipsburg, Shanna Johnson led the Prospectors to the 25-15, 25-11, 25-6 District 9-C sweep.

Johnson had 10 kills and a block, while teammate Megan Thompson had 12 assists. Philipsburg received 13 aces from Jessie Metesh as well as five digs from Devyn Poser.

Kaylene Munson had two kills and three blocks for the Pirates.

At Seeley Lake, Janelle Greenwood paved the way for the Blackhawks' 25-18, 23-25, 22-25, 25-20, 15-8 District 9-C win.

Greenwood posted team highs with 25 kills, 29 digs and nine aces. Summit Parcell set 15 assists and Katelyn Lewis added a pair of blocks as Seeley-Swan moved to 5-3, 6-5.

Lyndi Ishler led the Panthers with 14 digs, 14 assists and eight aces.
