HELENA — The Missoula Sentinel volleyball team outlasted Helena Capital 3-1 in the Bears' Den on Tuesday, topping the Bruins 25-20, 25-27, 25-15, 25-11.
The Spartans (14-1, 4-0) are the league-leaders. Capital slipped to 9-4 overall and 2-3 in Western Conference play.
Host Capital kept the first set close, and then rallied to beat Sentinel in an overtime game before the visitors pulled away handily in the next two sets.
Capital had a tough time getting their spikes to hit the ground as Sentinel registered 67 digs.
The Spartans were led by Jordyn Schweyen with 38 assists and Sorina Moreno with 22 digs and four service aces.
Katie Culver and Dani Bartsch had eight kills and four blocks for Capital. Audrey Hofer and Celina Sanchez set 11 assists apiece, and Hofer and Bartsch both had eight digs.
"It was a tough match tonight, we fought hard the first two sets; taking that second game on a comeback was good for us as a team," CHS coach Rebecca Cleveland said. "But we struggled with consistency and communication on the court the final two sets."
Cleveland said her team will have to get back to the grind at Wednesday's practice and dig a little deeper as it prepares for crosstown rival Helena on Thursday.
"We need to use tonight's loss as an opportunity for learning from our mistakes and making progress forward."
