Behind 22 state qualifiers, Kalispell Flathead is again the king of Western AA.

The Braves took a team title at the Western AA Divisional on Saturday at Helena, but only by a hair over Missoula Big Sky. The Eagles totaled 20 team points, just behind Flathead's 22.

The top eight placers in each weight class advanced to next week's state tournament in Billings and Big Sky had 19 of those. That included 145-pound champ KJ Swanson. Missoula Sentinel also had one champion, Bryar Newbary at 205.

Flathead won seven of the 13 weight classes.

In the lower classifications, the teams from Montana's northwestern most corner claimed the Western A and B-C titles over their rivals from the south end of Flathead Lake.

In Dillon, Columbia Falls edged Polson to repeat as Western A divisional champion with 227 points to the Pirates' 203. The top eight placers at each weight there advanced to state. For C. Falls that meant 16 wrestlers. Polson will send 14.

In Arlee, Eureka dominated to earn its third Western B-C Divisional crown. The Lions totaled 232 points to the 140.5 of second-place Ronan.

The top four placers at each weight earned automatic spots in the state bracket while the Nos. 5 and 6 wrestlers become alternates. Eureka had 13 boys in the top four, including seven champions.

Nine Ronan wrestlers finished in the top four.

The all-class wrestling state championships begin Friday at the Billings Rimrock Auto Arena at MetraPark.
