MISSOULA — The Missoula Junior Bruins snapped a four-game losing streak Saturday with a 7-3 win over the Butte Cobras at Glacier Ice Rink.
The Junior Bruins boosted their record to 6-9 in NA3 Hockey League Frontier Division action. The last-place Cobras fell to 2-12.
The teams traded goals in the first period. Kyler Fullerton scored on the power play for the hosts with an assist from Jim Seielstad at 3:38. Carsten Quam answered for the Cobras about five minutes later.
The teams again traded goals early in the second period, with Ty Dittman scoring for Missoula and Alec Sorby on the power play for Butte. The Jr. Bruins then exploded for three goals in the latter half of the period, with Misha Akatnov, Dittman and Seielstad all lighting the lamp.
Butte cut its deficit to 5-3 early in the third period on a power-play goal by Joe Erickson. Missoula responded with two goals to salt the game.
Austin Leadbetter found the net on assists from Cade Insko and Seielstad at 6:15 in the third period. Midway through the period Akatnov pushed Missoula's lead to 7-3. Akatnov finished with two goals and two assists.
Seth Daniel earned the win in net for the Jr. Bruins, making 12 saves. Missoula will be on the road next weekend with games against the Yellowstone Quake on Friday and Saturday.
