GREAT FALLS - The Class AA Missoula Mavericks' run of undefeated play in Western Conference American Legion baseball came to an end Friday afternoon.
The Great Falls Electrics touched Missoula staff ace Cody Burgmeier for seven runs in the first three innings and held on to post a 12-7 victory.
The Mavericks' defeat halted their string of nine league wins to begin conference play and left them at 35-13 overall heading into the Rapid City Firecracker tournament July 1-6.
Hunter Carlyon was 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs for Great Falls. The Electrics received a double and three driven in from Jake Olson. Great Falls catcher Tyler Brinka and Joe LaRance each collected two RBIs. LaRance singled three times.
John Reilly got the win in a six-inning start for the Electrics, and limited the Mavs to two runs. Tucker Cook, Olson and Ethan Hortick all saw time in relief of Reilly.
Burgmeier (8-2) tossed seven innings before being pulled in favor of Wes Martens in the eighth. They combined to surrender 15 hits.
Sam Sopko doubled and finished 2-for-3 for Missoula. Cubby Pierre singled twice and had an RBI. Taylor King, Burgmeier and Sean Dwyer each drove in a run for Missoula.
