DILLON - The Deer Lodge Wranglers scored a pair of victories on Thursday's first day of play at the Maybelle Arthur Class A American Legion baseball tournament at Vigilante Stadium.
The Wranglers kicked off tourney action with a 9-3 victory over the Livingston Braves in the early game before downing Salmon, Idaho, 9-4.
Will Anderson and Andrew Stefalo combined to allow five hits in the Wranglers' first win of the day. Starting pitcher Stefalo tossed the final two frames of shut-out ball and the Wranglers played errorless defense while pounding out nine hits.
Deer Lodge catcher Joe Stefalo toted the big bat, belting a home run and finishing 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Blake Niederklein added a double and Paul Vasquez drove in a pair for the Wranglers.
The Braves received a three-run homer from Justin Rogers.
In beating Salmon, Deer Lodge got a big afternoon at the plate from Dean Despain, who doubled, drove in two and finished 2-for-3. Joe Stefalo doubled and posted three RBIs, and Cody Jennings had a double and an RBI for Deer Lodge.
Jordan Jennings got the win on the mound for the Wardens and Andrew Stefalo tossed another two frames of scoreless relief.

Mission Valley Mariners 17, Bitterroot Bucs 7
At the Dillon tournament, Eric Locke hit solo a homer and the Mariners won their tourney opener in six innings due to the 10-run margin rule.
Locke led off Mission Valley's seven-run second inning with his third long ball of the season, clearing the fence in right field. John Rausch added a grand slam in the same frame as Mission Valley (14-7) took a 12-5 lead.
Spencer Trawick entered in the fourth inning in relief of Mariners starter Kyle Bagnell and got the victory.
Matt Perez hit a solo homer for the Bucs in the fourth.
