GREAT FALLS — The Missoula Jr. Bruins suffered their third straight defeat Friday, dropping a 7-2 verdict to the Great Falls Americans at the Ice Plex.
Misha Akatnov had a goal and assist for Missoula but it was not enough as the Jr. Bruins fell to 17-22 in NA3 Hockey League Frontier Division play. The playoff-bound Americans boosted their sparkling record to 28-10.
The dominance of the Americans was reflected in the shot totals. Great Falls racked up 38 to Missoula's 13.
The teams were knotted at 1-1 after one period. After Trent Cowden scored for the hosts, Akatnov answered on an assist from Rhys Cottle at 4:13.
Great Falls jumped back in front 53 seconds into the second period on a power-play goal by Cowden. Teammate Payton McSharry added a goal roughly 13 minutes later and the hosts headed to the third period with a 3-1 lead.
Glacier added two insurance goals in the early stages of the third period. Vadim Zubkov answered for the Jr. Bruins with a power-play goal on assists by Tyler Prince and Akatnov at 11:39, but the Americans pulled away with two more insurance goals against Missoula goalie Billy Yoder.
The Jr. Bruins have three more regular-season games remaining, including one at Great Falls Saturday and two next weekend in Gillette, Wyoming.
