HELENA — Somebody must have slipped the Helena Bighorns some of Michael Jordan's Secret Stuff after the second period in Saturday's NA3HL matchup against the Missoula Junior Bruins in the Capital city.
Helena out-shot Missoula 26-5 in the final period to come back from a one-goal deficit and win, 3-2.
And the Bighorns even had a little extra for fisticuffs in the game's final minute.
Before the frosty dust-up, though, Jarett Scheibel scored the game-tying goal 1 minute, 57 seconds into the third period on an assist from Nick Noel and Dane Rieger. Noel, who finished with two assists, scored the game-winning goal 59 seconds before the third-period buzzer, and somebody didn't take too kindly to the score.
Noel was involved in the final-second fracas, along with Scheibel and Missoula's Hayden Moistner. All three were escorted off the ice shortly thereafter.
Junior Bruin goalie Billy Yoder avoided the aggression, but did a good job blocking pucks all night even in the loss. He stopped 54 of the 57 shots he faced, nearly allowing Zach Jaffe and Misha Akotnov's goals to stand. Jaffe scored first for the Junior Bruins a little over two minutes into the game.
Akatnov's goal at the 3:58 mark in the second period gave Missoula a 2-1 lead.
The Bighorns' onslaught was too much in the final frame, though, and the Jr. Bruins fell to 2-4-1 overall in the NA3HL's Frontier Divison. Helena, which leads the Frontier, improved to 6-2-0.
