GREAT FALLS – It’s tough to upstage Andrew Barbosa, but that’s exactly what the Missoula Osprey bats did on Thursday.

The Osprey scored five runs in the eighth inning to break up an honest-to-goodness pitchers’ duel and secure a 5-2 victory over the Great Falls Voyagers at Centene Stadium.

Missoula (10-8) snapped a two-game losing streak with the Pioneer League North win.

Barbosa, the Birds’ 6-foot-8 southpaw, was his usual dominant self. Last week’s Pioneer League pitcher of the week allowed one run on five hits in six innings of work.

The run was the first that Barbosa has allowed this summer.

Barbosa had his 16-inning scoreless streak snapped when Great Falls’ Micah Johnson knocked in Adam Heisler with a first-inning single. Heiser led off with a triple.

Barbosa’s ERA rose to 0.41. He didn’t give up a run the rest of the way and now has just one run against him in 22 innings this summer.

Voyagers’ starter Jonathan Casey was also dialed in. He held Missoula scoreless on three hits in 6 1/3 innings. Both Casey and Barbosa struck out four batters on the night.

The Osprey didn’t strike until Great Falls reliever Brandon Hardin entered in the eighth. He gave up five runs on three hits, while recording just two outs.

Missoula’s Michael Perez, who was 2 for 4 on the night, gave his squad the lead for good with a two-out RBI infield single.

All the Osprey runs came with two outs. Socrates Brito and Breland Almadova also had RBI singles in the eighth. The other two runs came home on throwing errors.

Missoula’s Dexter Price earned the win by tossing 2 1-3 innings of relief. He was touched for one run in the seventh, but held firm the rest of the way.

Price (2-0) struck out three and walked one. He was lifted in the ninth for Michael Blake, who got the final two outs of the game to earn his first save of the season.

Johnson finished 3 for 4 for Great Falls and Abe Ruiz was 2 for 3 with an RBI.

The O’s and Voyagers wrap up their three-game series at 7 p.m. Friday.
