Montana State’s Carson King pinned his steer in 4.2 seconds, good for fourth place in the College National Finals Rodeo Go 2 of steer wrestling on Tuesday at the Casper, Wyoming Events Center.

King’s performance in the second go was the highlight for Montanans, as the stage concluded in Tuesday morning’s slack. Teammate Will Powell finishing tied for 18th in steer wrestling and 13th in tie down roping.

Fellow Bobcat Jesse Nelson ended the second go of bareback tied for 10th.

Montana Western’s Kelly Murnion recorded his first score in bull riding Tuesday, notching a 69.5 for sixth. Teammate Tristan Hansen followed his bareback third place in Go 1 with a seventh-place showing in Go 2.

University of Montana’s Tyler Turco’s 69.5 in saddle bronc held for 10th place.

On the women’s side, Montana State’s Madison Wilkerson finished the second go tied for 11th in barrel racing. The Bobcat trio of Celie Salmond, Ryanne Tracy and Shelby Rassmussen failed to record a time in breakaway roping.

The third go got underway in Tuesday night’s performance, and will continue through Friday. The top 12 in each event come back Saturday for the finals, where national championships will be decided.
