BUTTE - Two wins down, two to go.

The Hamilton Broncs moved into the undefeated semifinal with a 3-0 blanking of Laurel in the winners' bracket at the state Class A softball tournament Friday at the Copper Mountain Sports Complex.

The Broncs (21-3), who entered last year's state tournament undefeated but didn't place, will meet Billings Central (18-3) for a trip to the championship round Saturday at 9 a.m.

The Rams advanced by knocking off Western A champion Libby 4-2.

Two-time defending state champion Polson (24-2) won three games to advance in the losers' bracket. The Pirates will square off Saturday at 9 a.m. against Butte Central (16-8), which also won three loser-out contests Friday. The winner of that game will play the Hamilton-Billings Central loser at 11 a.m. for the second spot in the finals, which begin at 1 p.m. Saturday.

n Hamilton 3, Laurel 0: Junior Melodee Mildenberger pitched the Broncs to within a game from the championship with a one-hit shutout.

n Polson 16, Corvallis 2: A five-run inning and a two-hitter by Johnson helped the Pirates win a loser-out contest, limited to six innings due to the 10-run margin rule.

The Pirates scored in every frame after the first inning as Johnson struck for four RBIs and 4-for-5.

Burke drove in three and went 2-for-5 for Polson, while teammate Keeley Torgison was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Center fielder Strohm Fouty doubled, drove in a run and was 2-for-5.

Catcher Jordan Kambich also went 2-for-3 for the Maroons.

Ronan, which played its best ball late, watched its campaign end at 7-17.

n Polson 5, Columbia Falls 1: The Wildkats out-hit Polson, but committed three errors and Burke took care of the rest.

Chelsie Jolley drove in the lone run for Columbia Falls, which completed its year 6-14.
