KALISPELL - Kalispell's Chelsey Lorenz is a well-rounded softball player.

The senior hurler threw a four-hit shutout and belted a three-run homer to lift the Bravettes into the state Class AA championship game with a 4-0 win over Missoula Sentinel on Friday evening at the Conrad Complex.

The Bravettes (19-6) await the survivor from the losers' bracket in Saturday's 1 p.m. championship game. Sentinel (17-6) plays a loser-out contest at 11 a.m. One win would put the Spartans in the title game in a rematch with the Bravettes.

Lorenz, who threw a one-hitter against Helena Capital earlier Friday, struck out six and allowed four hits.

"We put the ball in play and they played great defense," Sentinel coach Brian Bessette said.

Kalispell scored all four of its runs with two outs in the fourth. Kristen Vaughan had a two-out single to score the first run, then Lorenz belted her three-run dinger for insurance.

Erica DeMers struck out 11 for Sentinel.

Bessette said the Spartans have already bounced back from the loss.

"By the time we got back to the hotel we got it behind us," Bessette said. "They still believe. That's the great thing about these tournaments, you can fight your way back."

Missoula Big Sky did just that, winning three games Friday. The Eagles downed Billings Senior 7-3, Great Falls Russell 4-1 in eight innings, and Helena Capital 4-1. The Eagles face Billings West on Saturday at 9 a.m. The winner advances to face Sentinel.

n Missoula Sentinel 7, Billings West 2: Katie Holbeck and Jessica Miles homered to power Sentinel into the undefeated game Friday afternoon.

The Spartans trailed 1-0 in the fourth inning after Melissa Mehling singled and scored on Cari Dunlap's fielder's choice in the bottom of the third.

But West's lead didn't last long.

Holbeck led off the fourth with a solo homer to tie the game. Janie Purdy followed with a walk and Leah Madden reached on an error. One out later, Miles blasted a three-run homer, her second of the state tournament.

Stefani Hertz and Brittani Clifford kept West at bay the rest of the way, scattering eight hits.

"The thing I was most happy about is that the girls adjusted to (West pitcher Jenn Sorich) the second time through the order," Bessette said.

n Kalispell 1, Helena Capital 0: Lorenz had a perfect game until Jess Miller lined a single up the middle with one out in the seventh. Lorenz has thrown two no-hitters and a perfect game this season.

Lorenz struck out nine.

The Bravettes scored the only run they would need in the fourth inning when Lorenz doubled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Natalie Leuhr.

n Missoula Big Sky 7, Billings Senior 3: The Eagles spotted Senior a two-run lead before scoring twice in the fourth and fifth innings to stay alive in the losers' bracket.

Lynnae Foshag had a pair of doubles for the Eagles and Kari Murphy drove in a pair of runs with two hits. Stephanie Phillips and Amber Macki also had two hits apiece.

Second baseman JoDee Krause made a great catch behind first base to end the third inning.

Michael Eustance picked up the win for the Eagles.

n Missoula Big Sky 4, Great Falls Russell 1, 8 innings: The Eagles scored three times in the eighth to stay alive.

Amber Macki reached on a one-out single and Lynnae Foshag was safe on an error. Sarah Fred made the Rustlers pay for the mistake with a three-run, game-winning homer.

Eustance went the distance to earn the win for Big Sky, sllowing just six hits.

n Missoula Big Sky 4, Helena Capital 1: The Eagles scored three times in the sixth inning to down Capital in another loser-out game.

Macki had an RBI single and Foshag drove home another run with a double.

Fred shut down Capital on six hits to earn the win.

n Great Falls 2, Missoula Hellgate 1: Molly Hays tossed a no-hitter in her final game for the Knights, but lost.

Great Falls scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, helped by two errors and three wild pitches.

Hellgate, which finished its season at 9-11, scored its lone run in the third when Mandy Hays singled, advanced on a fielder's choice, then scored on a single by Molly Hays.
