BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The University of Montana baseball club fell to Western Washington 12-1 in the championship game of the regional tournament Sunday in Bellingham.
Montana had advanced to the championship by winning the Big Sky Conference tourney a week ago, then downing Oregon 7-3 in the semifinals at regionals.
Matt Peak picked up the win on the mound against Oregon, throwing six innings and allowing three hits and no earned runs. Matt Salvi and James Jones had two hits apiece. Jones drove in a pair, as did Keith Thompson.
Salvi homered for Montana's only run in the title game against Western Washington, which advanced to the championship with a 10-0 win over Eastern Washington.
Montana finished its season at 22-14 after posting an 18-7 mark in Big Sky play.
