Coach Delaney, You are truly a Montana treasure. You have tirelessly given of yourself to generations of Montana's youth and I am certain countless of those you have influenced are much better for it. You were the perfect person to step up and right the ship at the U of M when things weren't looking so good. I do not think there could have been a better person to do the job you have done. Hats off to you sir for all of your years of service to our great state.

As a former football coach of thirty-six years, I would like to extend my deepest appreciation for what Coach Delaney has not only done for the University of Montana, but what he has invested in the great game of football.  He has taught much more than just the skills of the game.  The integrity of the game has always been number one with Coach Delaney. Commitment, self-discipline, and desire were all evident of Coach Delaney's team.

Being an alumni of the University of Montana (1979), I understand the passion that Coach Delaney brought to the U of M.  Griz nation thanks you, as I do , Coach Delaney!

Good luck to Coach Mick.

Yes Missoula... There are a few of us MSU graduates still lurking around our community. We remain loyal to our Cats, and but for a few exceptions, Griz fans have usually been polite and respectful to our Cat fans. After all, it is only a game and we are all Montanans. Right?

With that said, I would like to congratulate the Griz on another winning football season and send direct special praise off to Coach Mick Delaney. Mick took over Griz Nation at a difficult time and kept the train on the tracks. Many of us recently witnessed Coach Delaney speak at former Bobcat rival Cliff Hysell's funeral last month. Mick took time out from his grueling schedule, a day before the Cal Davis game, to drive over to Bozeman and pay tribute to his old friend and fellow collegue. (Mick and Cliff coached together at Great Falls High in the 60's and again at MSU in the early 80’s). Everyone in Bozeman was pretty impressed. Our coach claims Butte as his hometown, but Mick is always welcome in Bozeman where he has plenty of family and friends.

Mick is a class act and he truly gets it. He leads by example. He is a humble, sincere man who dishes out all sorts of respect and is complimentary to everyone. Sometimes I wonder if the fans on either side of the fence get it. It’s not always about winning games and crushing your rival. Mick teaches the game of life to his coaches and players. He always has. He also teaches people to respect all people, including their opponents and rivals. We could all take a lesson.

All I can say to Griz fans is that Mick Delaney is a class act and the entire state of Montana has been fortunate to have him around for so many years. Griz football will find an adequate replacement for their leader, but it will be tough to replace Mick Delaney, the man.

Good luck to you Coach Mick!

I don't know him much but I will comment to say that multiple, multiple times I passed him in the Adams Center he was so kind to stop, acknowledge me, say hi and ask how my day was going. Very nice guy, hope he enjoys some relaxation after all his hard work! Go Griz

You took a lot of heat for a situation that was not of your creation, and still maintained an air of dignity while those that wanted more, asked for your head. Griz fans everywhere should thank you for keeping a winning tradition going without making excuses for the program's shortcomings. For this, you should be bestowed eternal gratitude.

Almost 50 yrs. ago I was a student and football player at Butte Central when Mick Delaney was an assistant coach there. Although our head coach was a real old-school hardnosed type, Mick had a way of getting more effort out of the kids by being a nice guy. Good luck to one of life’s genuine good guys. Take care, Mick.

I may have known Mick longer than almost anyone. It goes back to when our dads bowled with each other and our parents played cards in Butte. We were about 5 years old. I was a year ahead of him at Butte Central and then on to Western. I always followed his coaching career. Any kid who played for Mick was better for the experience.

I appreciate the sense of sportsmanship, FairPlay and respect for competitors that Coach Delaney has brought back the Montana Football. Also it is good for the community and the team members to know that there are rules and there are consequences for breaking those rules and that those consequences will be enforced.

Thank you Coach Delaney. I hope your successor continues the practice of those values.

My name is Dustin Tulberg and I really want to tell you about Coach Delaney!

I am handicapped and Coach Delaney took me in as a Manager on the Griz football team over the last two seasons. Letting me be a Manager for the Griz was a big dream that I had since I was a little boy. I have always loved the Griz and he made my dreams come true!

He is the best Coach the Griz have ever had and I want to wish him the best for the future!

He always made me feel good and often asked me "How are things going Dustin?" He took the time out of his busy schedule of being coach to make sure that I was doing good in life and as a student at the University of Montana. He gave me a chance to be a part of the team and I will never forget that!

My parents often brag about how we were out eating dinner and he made a special point of coming up to them and letting them know how much I meant to the team and how hard of a worker that I was as a Manager. They felt so good about that!

Thank you Coach Delaney for believing in me and having me be a part of your team. You are a very special person in my life and a CLASS ACT!!
