If you don't know and don't want to look it up, marsala is the wine-influenced, red-kissed color.

The Pantone Color Institute picks a color each year, and it can -- can -- mean a presence of that color in fashion, beauty, housewares and the like. But some years, the influence is stronger than others.

The outgoing color of the year? Radiant Orchid, which was preceded in 2013 by Emerald green.

Pantone's people say marsala is a brown-red with blue undertones for a dark blush effect.
