Missoulian sports staff Boston Marathon
Matt Guzik of Hamilton completed his fourth marathon in as many months Monday, running the Boston Marathon in 2 hours, 59.52 seconds. It was the second sub-three hour run of the year for Guzik, who is attempting to finish 12 marathons in 12 months.
He ran the Las Vegas Marathon in 2:59.32 on Feb. 6.
Missoula's David Houck had the best time by a Montanan on Monday, completing the course in 2:53.28 to place 649th. Patricia Kent, also of Missoula, had the best time among the state's women at 3:20.10. She placed 3,937th.
Kenya's Elijah Lagat won the race in 2:09.47. Another Kenyan, Catherine Ndereba, captured the women's prize in 2:26.11.
Guzik will present $1,000 each to the local 4-H and YMCA for finishing the race. The money is donated by a number of area sponsors. Guzik, 40, was the second Montanan across the line early Monday afternoon. He ran a fairly steady pace of between about 20 1/2 and 22 minutes per 5 kilometers.
Chris Williams, a 21-year-old from Kalispell, crossed in 3:07.48.
Mandijane Williams of Missoula finished in 3:47.58. Other area runners included Suzanne Hildner of Whitefish (4:08.41) and Ethel MacDonald of Missoula (4:27.21).
