Missoulian UM beats Lewis-Clark State 5-4

SPOKANE - Montana closed out its regular season and closed the gap on Gonzaga, but still fell 6-3 to the Lady Bulldogs on Saturday in women's tennis play.

On Friday, the Lady Griz claimed two of three doubles matches to pull out a 5-4 victory over Lewis-Clark State in Lewiston, Idaho.

Gonzaga, 17-3 this season, won all but one match against UM in February and all but two last weekend in Missoula. This time, Montana's Jessica Redding captured the No. 1 singles match 6-4, 6-3 over Sarah Ust, and teamed with Libby Catron to defeat Gonzaga's No. 1 doubles team 8-6. Kate Kohlschreiber and Kim Barger teamed up to win the No. 3 doubles match for Montana with an 8-3 decision.

The same two doubles teams were victorious for UM against Lewis-Clark. Kohlschreiber and Barger pulled out a tense 9-7 win to clinch the team victory.

The Lady Griz (3-9) will be in Pocatello, Idaho, Thursday through Sunday for the Big Sky Conference regional tournament.
