Missoulian Butte Central and Corvallis also undefeated

FRENCHTOWN - Call the Polson Pirates the unofficial champions of the Frenchtown Invitational.

There was no official champion in the round-robin event, but the Pirates were the only team which played both Friday and Saturday to go undefeated.

The Western A Pirates followed wins over Cut Bank and Florence on Friday with a 5-1 win over Stevensville and a 4-1 victory over Thompson Falls.

Butte Central and Corvallis went undefeated on Friday, but neither team competed in the tournament on Saturday.

Host Frenchtown, which lost a tough 4-3 contest to Butte Central on Friday, beat Cut Bank and Hamilton on Friday to finish 3-1.

Frenchtown 8, Cut Bank 0: Christy Lefler went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs for the Broncs. Julie Savik also had three RBIs and Dulcie Gillette had an RBI triple.

Senior Jessie Williams moved to 4-2 with a nine-strikeout, no walk effort. Cut Bank committed five errors.

Conrad 5, Florence 2: Conrad took advantage of seven Florence errors to notch the win. The Cowgirls scored three runs in the bottom of the third and two in the bottom of the fifth.

Jessica Bergstrom had two hits for Conrad. Michelle Block went 2-for-3 for Florence.

Missoula Loyola 8, Libby 3: Senior Theresa Riebe went 3-for-3 and drove in four runs as the Heart Breakers notched their first win of the tourney.

Catie Priddy and Jodi Mann also drove in runs for Loyola.

Jolene Huntsberger went 2-for-2 for Libby and Lane Gilden had a triple.

Polson 5, Stevensville 1: Erin Turnage allowed two hits and struck out four in five innings to improve her record to 6-0.

Jackie Johnson, Maggie Hewankorn and Becky Owen each pounded out two hits for the Pirates. Hewankorn had two doubles and drove in a run.

Senior Michele Hunter had a double for Stevensville, which scored its run in the top of the fourth.

No score was reported for Stevensville's other game against Conrad.

Cut Bank 6, Florence 3: Cut Bank broke open a 3-3 game with three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take the victory from Florence.

Florence trailed 3-1, but tied it up with two runs in the bottom of the fifth on a Megan McKay two-run double.

Senior Tawnya Vernon picked up the loss for Florence, which dropped to 4-6.

Loyola 9, Thompson Falls 5: The Heart Breakers scored eight runs in the top of the seventh inning to rally to beat Thompson Falls (4-9).

Catie Priddy's two-run double tied the game at 5-5. Jodi Mann followed with a single to score Priddy and give Loyola the advantage.

Loyola (7-4) pounded out five hits and got four walks in the final frame. Priddy finished 3-for-4 at the plate and also pitched the complete game to earn the win.

Dacey Jedlicka and Jamie Kuzma had two RBIs for Thompson Falls.

Libby 6, Hamilton 4: Julie Barnes had an RBI single in Libby's three-run sixth inning to lead the Western A Loggers over Central A Hamilton.

Hamilton pounded out 10 hits, including three by Karly Manning and two from Kristen Hansen and Ashley Dutton.

Mandi Foss and Stacey Bothman drove in runs for Libby (7-2).

Frenchtown 7, Hamilton 2: Senior infielder Jeanne Bick cleared the bases with a bases-loaded double in the top of the fifth inning, helping Frenchtown topple Hamilton.

Sophomore Brianne Tweedy (5-0) continued her solid pitching for Frenchtown (11-2), striking out nine and holding Hamilton to just four hits.

Anna Henderson had two hits for Frenchtown and Kayla Brosious went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Karly Manning drove in two runs for Hamilton (6-6) in the bottom of the sixth.

Polson 4, Thompson Falls 1: The Pirates broke open a 1-1 contest with three runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Diania Davis, Jackie Johnson and Becky Owen each had two hits for Polson (11-2).

The Pirates committed just three errors in the four games. All three came in their opener on Friday, a 17-2 win over Cut Bank.

Robin Walker had two hits for Thompson Falls.
