DEER LODGE (AP) - The red dump truck that an inmate used to escape from the Montana State Prison on Friday was found quickly, but searchers found no trace of the escapee.

The dump truck was abandoned on prison property, Lt. Art Garrison said Saturday.

Searchers scoured the area into the night, but found no trace of the missing inmate, David W. Grant, Garrison said.

Prison officials discovered shortly before 4 p.m. Friday that Grant, 51, was missing, prison spokeswoman Linda Moodry said.

Grant, serving a 30-year sentence on four burglary convictions in Missoula County, was part of a road crew working on prison grounds when he disappeared.

The former Thompson Falls resident was described as white, 6 feet tall, 205 pounds, with partially gray hair and a stocky build.
