Nez Perce stories up next at Travelers’ Rest

  • 0

LOLO n The focus for the 2006 Winter Storytelling Series at Travelers' Rest State Park in Lolo will turn to the Nez Perce tribe which, like other plateau tribes, used winter as a time of preparation, learning and passing on oral history.

The place now known as Travelers' Rest was at the end of the Nimipu Trail, traveled for years by the Nez Perce people. Nez Perce storyteller and historian Alan Pinkham from Idaho is scheduled to provide the program from 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturday. If weather hinders his travel, Travelers' Rest Native American program coordinator Rob Collier, a Nez Perce descendant, will fill in.

Admission is $3 per person. Travelers' Rest members and anyone 18 and under are admitted free.
