Carroll, Lewis-Clark St. duel for title - Frontier women's tournament

BUTTE - Jolene Fuzesy scored 23 points Friday, including six 3-pointers, to lead Carroll College to an 81-50 victory over Rocky Mountain College in the semifinals of the Frontier Conference women's basketball tournament.

Carroll (28-4), ranked 11th in the NAIA poll, made 13 of 19 shots from 3-point range. Fuzesy, who leads the NAIA in 3-point field goal percentage, made 6-of-7 just a day after missing all six of her attempts. Laci High made 4 of 5 3-pointers for the Saints.

Rocky, which upset defending league champion and No. 8 Montana-Western 61-58 in the opening round, never led in the semifinal game. The score was tied at 22 after a basket by Sarah Madinger with 6:14 left in the first half.

Fuzesy scored seven points in a 12-2 run that gave the Saints a 34-24 lead with 1:37 left in the half. The Saints led 37-26 at halftime.

Carroll took a 50-31 lead on a basket by Sophi Forney with 14:50 remaining. Rocky could get no closer than 13 the rest of the way.

Forney added 14 points and 10 rebounds while High finished with 12 points.

Gretchen Wall scored 10 points for Rocky.

Lewis-Clark St. 74, Westminster, Utah 68: Terri Wittmer scored 14 points Friday to help Lewis-Clark State to a 74-68 victory over Westminster College in the semifinals.

Lewis-Clark State (30-1), ranked 2nd in the NAIA, meets No. 11 Carroll College (28-4) in the championship game Saturday at 5 p.m.

Westminster (21-11) tied the score at 60 with 8:10 remaining on a basket by Janae Hirsch, who finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

But the Warriors used a 6-0 run to build a 66-60 cushion on a basket by Jade Fulbright with 6:38 remaining.

Elisa Leader hit a 3-pointer to pull Westminster to 66-63 with 5:24 remaining, but the Griffins couldn't get any closer. Leader made two free throws with 1:07 remaining to pull to 72-68, but Westminster missed five 3-point attempts over the final 33 seconds.

Ashley Baker added 12 points and 10 rebounds for Lewis-Clark State. Jade Fulbright also has 12 points and Janeen Nelson added 11.

Leader scored 20 for Westminster, which led 36-34 at halftime.
