Doctor examining ear of senior woman
Gavin Horne’s career as a hearing instrument specialist represents the perfect combination of his two biggest professional goals: expanding his technical knowledge and working with people.
Early on, the Idaho native was interested in exploring opportunities in engineering and finance. But talking with his father — also a hearing instrument specialist with My Hearing Centers — opened his eyes to new possibilities.

“Any job I’ve liked in the past involved building relationships with people, but I’m technically minded, too,” Horne said. “I started shadowing my dad to see what the job was all about and met with the My Hearing Centers regional manager. It all just felt really right for me.”
My Hearing Centers started operations in 2010 to bring a fresh approach to the field of hearing education and hearing care. Over time, the company has grown to service Billings, Great Falls and Missoula, staffed by providers who strive to maintain a personal connection to the communities they serve.
After completing his training, Horne earned his Idaho licensure in December 2024. He moved to Missoula with his wife last spring after becoming licensed in Montana to work in the local My Hearing Centers office.
“The people in Montana are just so friendly and down to earth. Working with them from day to day is a very pleasant experience,” he said. “I’ve been fortunate to establish actual friendships with some of my patients and their families. That’s been really meaningful for me.”
For Horne, the ability to help people hear better is the best part of the work he does at My Hearing Centers. He remembers how good it felt to ultimately accommodate a financially struggling patient who had never been able to hear his own daughter’s voice before getting hearing aids.
“Being able to give him that experience was so satisfying,” Horne said. “He was so excited. I’ve also had a 90-year-old patient thank me for her ‘new life’ on her way out the door with her new hearing aids.”
Being a part of the My Hearing Centers family allows Horne to run the Missoula office like he would his own business, but with added support and resources from the company.
“If I need anything and I reach out for help, I know they’ve always got my back,” he said. “I’m really happy where I am. They truly want us to succeed, and they want patients to have a good experience. They trust me to just do what I feel is right for our local community.”
Part of that effort includes offering free hearing tests to all first time patients.
“Even if you don’t have a hearing loss, it’s good to get a baseline and know where you stand,” Horne said. “Of course, we hope our testing shows no significant hearing loss, but getting tested will inform you whether treatment is necessary or not.”
